Reduced water availability for household consumption, crop failures because of soil drought, and frequent power interruptions that affect home-based livelihoods are among the challenges faced by many households in Camalig, Albay.

These challenges ahead of #ElNino2026 and the continued #MayonVolcano activity are adding to the difficulties and uncertainty faced by vulnerable families in the community.

Through the project “Anticipatory Action Assistance for Mayon Volcanic Activities and Drought,” Oxfam Pilipinas and Mayon Integrated Development Alternatives and Services (MIDAS) provided multipurpose cash assistance to 75 vulnerable households from Barangay Sua, Camalig, including elderly individuals, solo parents, and families with members who are persons with disabilities, on 30 May 2026.

The cash assistance will help families to prepare for the expected severe impacts of the Super El Niño by purchasing priority supplies and taking early actions to protect their well-being and livelihoods.
