Oxfam Pilipinas Executive Director, Lot Felizco, joined the panel on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Climate Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction at the USBONG: NbS Forum 2026, organized by Forest Foundation Philippines and partners.
She highlighted Oxfam Pilipinas’ approach to NbS as part of a broader resilience strategy–linking ecosystem protection, disaster risk reduction, gender justice, and accountable local governance. Drawing from previous work under Project CHARM and the SHE WINS initiative in Leyte, she emphasized community-led and gender-responsive mangrove restoration as a form of protective green infrastructure that reduces risks from storm surge, coastal flooding, and erosion while supporting livelihoods and biodiversity.
Effective and accountable NbS implementation must go beyond tree planting as it requires:
- Strong community leadership
- Functioning local institutions and governance
- Sustainable financing
- Clear monitoring systems
Truly effective NbS implementation leads to an equal society where women, youth, vulnerable and marginalized groups have meaningful roles in decision-making and stewardship.
