Experts from DOST-PAGASA and Manila Observatory, and Oxfam Pilipinas emphasized that the Philippines, and BARMM specifically, are yet to see the full effects of El Niño. However, there are pathways to prepare during this critical time. To identify urgent anticipatory actions and programs that address the differentiated needs of communities and LGUs, the ACCESS Consortium held “From Warning to Action: Operationalizing El Niño Early Response in BARMM,” a technical briefing for Strong El Niño 2026 in Cotabato City.
The conclusion from the activity is clear. Maximizing the window before the forecasted peak of El Niño is critical to reduce its risks and impacts on lives and livelihoods and prevent further calamity.
The ACCESS Consortium is committed to working with communities, LGUs, experts and partners to provide timely humanitarian assistance to those most impacted by El Niño, to reduce risks, and uphold human dignity.
