Anticipatory Action Distribution held for Mayon Volcano, El Niño hit Communities

While our teams are responding to communities affected by the #MindanaoEarthquake, we are also taking proactive measures alongside families facing increasing threats from #MayonVolcano and the impending #ElNiño2026.

As Mayon Volcano’s unrest reaches its sixth month, families in Albay grapple daily with volcanic ash in their homes, even as prolonged dry conditions impact their health and safety. With El Niño expected to grow more intense in the coming months, these combined risks, including rising temperatures and uncertain water supply, are already straining household resources and living conditions.

To help families even before El Niño’s most severe effects occur, Oxfam Pilipinas and MIDAS/Mayon Integrated Development Alternatives and Services, Inc. distributed cleaning kits to 200 families in Barangay Masarawag and provided cash-for-hygiene assistance to 200 families in Barangay Maipon, Guinobatan, on June 5 and 11, 2026.

The cleaning kits assist households in maintaining safer, cleaner homes amid continued ashfall, while the cash support allows families to buy essential hygiene supplies before conditions worsen further.

Oxfam Pilipinas and partners have been supporting communities in Albay that are displaced and in expanded danger zones of Mayon Volcano since January 2026; and we are now taking early action to lessen the expected impacts of El Niño on already vulnerable households.
