Oxfam Pilipinas lauds the Senate approval of the “Declaration of State of Imminent Disaster Bill”, which brings anticipatory action a step closer to legislation.
Since 2019, Oxfam Pilipinas has championed anticipatory action as a pre-emptive response to cyclones, flooding, and drought; evidence shows that it saves lives, leads to more dignified responses, and is more cost-effective. By acting pre-emptively, predictable shocks can be prevented from turning into crises, reducing both the human and financial burden.
As the country heads into typhoon season, Oxfam Pilipinas urges lawmakers and the president to swiftly enact the Imminent Disaster Bill into law—so we can act in advance and protect our people and livelihood even before disasters strike.
