Oxfam Pilipinas, Coastal CORE conduct rapid assesment in Albay

Oxfam Pilipinas and Coastal CORE, Incorporated swiftly deployed a rapid assessment team to Guinobatan, Sto. Domingo, and Camalig in Albay, Bicol, to understand the urgent needs of families displaced by Mayon Volcano’s eruption.

On January 10, the team visited evacuation centers, where the affected residents shared that they urgently need sleeping and water kits as well as expanded WASH facilities.

The evacuees worry about prolonged displacement and already feel the economic strain. Entry to the six-kilometer danger zone is prohibited, leaving families unable to return to their homes and livelihoods.

Today, our team heads to Malilipot, where 406 families have been affected. Malilipot and Tabaco City are among the hardest hit by Mayon Volcano’s unrest, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Oxfam Pilipinas and Coastal CORE are ready to provide support as we continue to monitor the situation around Mayon Volcano, which remains at alert level three.
