When disaster strikes, it is always the poorest and most vulnerable individuals and communities who suffer the most. Oxfam Pilipinas contributes to improving and saving lives especially of the most vulnerable. We increased our anticipatory actions against disasters to help communities better prepare and mitigate the impact on their lives. Such efforts helped make a difference to the lives of 277,910 individuals affected by flooding, typhoons, armed conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The following is a summary of our humanitarian interventions, which were made possible through quick assessments of humanitarian situations; active participation of affected population in designing response efforts, resulting in more appropriate interventions; and effective coordination with other humanitarian actors to maximize and leverage resources and avoid duplication of response:



Promotion and rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations supported; COVID-19 vaccination awareness sessions conducted; IEC materials on COVID-19 vaccines disseminated


Water, sanitation, and hygiene

Water facilities constructed and repaired; water trucking and jerry cans with water vouchers provided; communal sanitation facilities constructed; water quality monitoring and hygiene promotion sessions conducted; hygiene kits distributed


Food security and livelihood

In-kind food packs distributed; cash-for-food, cash-for-care, cash vouchers for water, multi- purpose cash grant assistance provided; health and nutrition awareness training conducted; livelihood support given through the provision of vegetable seeds for planting, materials for seaweed culture and individual fishing gears, and through the organization of women-managed retail store



Shelter kits containing trapal (canvas for tents), rope, floor mat, bag, mosquito net, malong (native attire that can also be used as a blanket), solar lamp and various cooking items distributed; camp coordination and camp management committees set up and strengthened



Registration and retrieval of new and lost legal documents (e.g., certificate of live birth) facilitated; awareness campaign on the rights and entitlements of internally displaced persons conducted
