Across several barangays in Catanduanes, hundreds of families were still reeling from the devastating floods and winds brought by Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) when heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides triggered by a shear line earlier this month caused widespread damage anew. Recovery remains difficult as many families lost almost all of their household items in the floods, making even simple daily tasks like preparing family meals or doing laundry difficult.

The People’s Disaster Risk Reduction Network, Inc. and Oxfam Pilipinas, with funding support from the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, delivered vital household and hygiene kits to 601 families from 10 barangays in the towns of Viga, San Miguel, and Bato in Catanduanes province last week.

PDRRN and Oxfam Pilipinas will continue to bring essential humanitarian assistance to the people of Catanduanes and work with local communities to ensure the most vulnerable and those most affected by disasters receive the support they need to recover and prepare for future hazards.
